A new East–West CityGlider

Traffic congestion is getting worse across Brisbane – and spending millions of dollars on road widenings like Lytton Rd isn’t going to fix it.

With Brisbane facing another massive development boom, it’s crucial that the council and state government invest in public transport to help ease traffic congestion.

There is currently no high-frequency bus route linking the Bulimba peninsula to the city. While residents wanting to travel east–west have to go via the Cultural Centre.

We have launched a petition calling for a new high-frequency City Glider route from Bulimba to West End, traveling along the Wynnum/Lytton Rd corridor and Vulture St. The new CityGlider would:

  • Link Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthorne, Norman Park and East Brisbane to the city via Cross River Rail and the Metro
  • Provide an East–West link between West End and Woolloongabba that avoids the Cultural Centre
  • Come every five minutes in peak times and 10-15min in off-peak.

Councillor Jonathan Sri and Amy MacMahon, Member for South Brisbane have agreed to table the petition in council and state parliament but if we want to have a chance of success then we need at least 5000 signatures. Help us win new public transport for Brisbane!

We, the citizens of Brisbane, petition the Brisbane City Council and State Government to instate a new East–West CityGlider bus route from Montague Rd (near the new Woolworths) in West End to Bulimba.

This bus route would ease congestion along the Bulimba/Hawthorne peninsula onto Wynnum road and along Vulture Street. The route would allow city-goers to utilise Cross River Rail and people in West End to reach outer suburbs without needing to first go to the Cultural Centre.

There is currently no high-frequency bus route linking the Bulimba peninsula to the city. With increasing development, residents in these areas are in dire need of a high-frequency bus route. We call on the Council and State Government to commit to this much-needed route.
