The Government is trying to force their centrepiece housing legislation through the senate, but it needs the Greens' votes to pass it.
Here’s the problem though- under Labor's plan, the housing crisis will get worse. Their plan does nothing for renters, and it will see the shortage of social and affordable housing grow. It doesn't guarantee a cent of money will actually be spent on building housing, and instead gambles public money on the stock market and hopes to invest any possible returns in loans and grants for housing projects.
We’re fighting for urgent improvements to this bill to make life a little more manageable for the millions of Australians struggling to pay the rent or buy a house or keep a roof over their head. We've told the government that this bill needs to invest more in actually building public and genuinely affordable housing, and it needs to take action for the millions of renters across the country who are one rent increase away from eviction.
