What Will It Take? A community forum on climate change and the future of environmental policy in Australia

2022 was a breakthrough moment with an unprecedented wave of Greens and Independents elected across the country, including right here in Griffith. Together we sent a clear message to the major parties: the time for climate inaction was over.

Over the last three years, with strong Greens representation in both the House and the Senate, we’ve held Labor to account and secured crucial wins for our climate. We’ve stopped taxpayers' money being spent on coal and gas stopped half of all new coal and gas projects in the pipeline, won an extra $1.3 billion in funding for households and businesses to transition to clean energy, and stopped laws that would have let the Resources Minister fast-track new gas mines without First Nations consent.

But we can’t stop now. Australia is still the second biggest exporter of fossil fuels in the world. Anthony Albanese and Labor approved 30 new coal and gas projects in the last three years, and last year alone, and Labor just folded to pressure from the mining industry to dump their own environmental laws. Emissions are now higher under Labor than they were under Morrison. And we know Dutton and the LNP would only make things worse.

Join me, Senator Larissa Waters and and world-renowned environmental campaigner and former leader of the Australian Greens, Dr Bob Brown, for a big community forum about how we keep a progressive parliament that will deliver for our climate.
