Labor keep your promise: fix the Coorparoo Level Crossing

The Coorparoo Level Crossing at Cavendish Road is one of the worst traffic hotspots in Brisbane, not to mention one of Queensland’s most dangerous crossings. We know there have been dozens of incidents, including collisions and pedestrian near misses at this site, and local people are fed up waiting for Labor to honour its promise to upgrade the crossing.

In 2019 Labor put out a media statement: ‘Labor Will Fix Coorparoo’s Cavendish Road Level Crossing’, committing funding to upgrade the crossing should they get into government.

Labor have now been in power at the state level since 2015, as well as the federal level since 2022, yet nothing has been done and no state government money has been committed to actually delivering the project.

For the past two years I’ve been following this up with the federal Treasurer, and the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. And for two years I’ve been told this project is in the ‘planning stages’ - yet they have nothing to show for it.

The Coorparoo crossing is in close proximity to Coorparoo Secondary College, Coorparoo State School and Giffin Park, which means that this crossing is a high traffic area for young people travelling to school and recreational activities.

Not only is it dangerous, the Coorparoo level crossing causes significant traffic congestion, which affects locals and anyone who commutes from the eastern suburbs to the CBD.

With commute times continuing to rise and safety around level crossings compromised constantly by near misses, it’s time for Labor to make good on its promise and fix the Coorparoo level crossing.

Who's signing

Will you sign?

Will you call on Labor to keep their promise to Coorparoo, and finally fix the Cavendish Road Level Crossing?

We petition the Queensland & Federal Labor Governments, and the Queensland Labor Member for Greenslopes, Joe Kelly, to commit to full funding to upgrade the Cavendish Road Level Crossing, and make good on their promise to the people of Coorparoo.
